Minecraft Copper is a metal resource that was added in the 1.17 update, and you’ll need to melt it’s ore form to make usable Copper ingots for crafting. Copper ore is available in a variety of locations depending on the Y-level of your. You’ll find small, green and orange pieces poking out from the stony blocks. However there are a few caveats to keep in mind when you mine, melt or craft with Copper most notably, it oxidizes and develops a bluish-green colour. Of course, if you want to get a Lightning Rod or a Spyglass then you’ll need to go hunting for Copper. We’ve outlined everything you need to be aware of about Minecraft Copper, including where you can mine for it, how to obtain Copper Ingots and how to wax Copper.

How to Find Copper in Minecraft

You might want some Minecraft Amethyst Shards with your copper to make a Spyglass

To get Copper Ingots in Minecraft You must find Copper Ore. The resource is created in the form of a Copper vein, which means that you’ll typically see several Copper ore blocks clustered together. It is recommended to have a Stone Pickaxe or a pickaxe of a higher quality, because Copper Ore extracted using a pickaxe or another item isn’t likely to drop any.

Copper Ore can be found from Y-level 0 up to 96, but with the highest chance of spawning in the middle layer – around Y48. It is best to search at least a little lower than sea level (Y63). If the Copper ore grows between J0 and J16 layers, it’s called Deepslate Copper Ore. This Copper Ore has a higher hardness than normal Copper Ore, and it takes longer to mine. Since it’s also extremely uncommon, it’s best to go with the normal Copper Ore type. Copper ore can also be found in large veins in Dripstone cave biomes.

Mining Copper Ore won’t give you Raw Copper. It is necessary to smelt the raw material to make Minecraft Copper Ingots. This is a simple procedure that most Minecraft players will already be familiar with: put the Raw Copper in a furnace and add some fuel (wood will do). Then wait until your Copper Ingots are at the right temperature. You can now begin to craft!

How do I use Copper in Minecraft

Now that you have Copper Ingots, it’s time to begin crafting. These items can be created using copper ingots:

Copper block. Make use of nine copper Ingots to create an even solid copper block. Lightning Rod. Set three Copper Ingots on top of each other to make the Lightning Rod. Take a look at our separate guide to Minecraft lightning rods. Spyglass. Place one Amethyst Shard on top of two Copper Ingots to craft a Spyglass. How do you wax Copper in Minecraft

Minecraft copper’s color changes with oxidation exactly like in real life. Skins The image above shows the various stages of Copper oxidation in Minecraft. If you do not want your copper to change, you can wax it (this will preserve the current color, and not reset it). Simply attach a honeycomb to the copper block.

You can also use an axe on an Copper block to scrape it. This will reduce the level of oxidation by one (weathered copper will then become exposed copper). In the end, although you cannot think about this lightning strikes can fully remove the oxidation.

Let’s go back to those Caves & Cliffs to get a Minecraft Copper house!
